From: genewardsmith (2012-12-25) Subject: Al-Farabi (?) chromatic scale In the Scala directory are two scales attributed to Al-Farabi (aka Alpharabius), one is al-farabi_chrom.scl, "Al Farabi's Chromatic c700 AD" and the second is al-farabi_chrom2.scl, "Al-Farabi's Chromatic permuted". There are a couple of things wrong with this--the first is that the second scale is not a permutation of the first scale. The second is that 700 AD dates the scale to well before Al Farabi was born. Does anyone have a clue to offer about this?
