My friends over at fature.net (an online record label) just put out a new compilation album "2 Minute Masterpieces"

So now I can finally share my contribution with this group. :) Have a play:

http://www.archive.org/download/FNet021/02.Sevish-Trapped_in_a_Cycle.mp3

It's some kinda electronic music as usual, which I named "Trapped in a Cycle". I used just intonation to create the pitch material. Here's the scale:

  0: 1/1 0.000 unison, perfect prime
  1: 33/32 53.273 undecimal comma, al-Farabi's 1/4-tone
  2: 9/8 203.910 major whole tone
  3: 7/6 266.871 septimal minor third
  4: 5/4 386.314 major third
  5: 21/16 470.781 narrow fourth
  6: 11/8 551.318 undecimal semi-augmented fourth
  7: 3/2 701.955 perfect fifth
  8: 77/48 818.189
  9: 5/3 884.359 major sixth, BP sixth
 10: 27/16 905.865 Pythagorean major sixth
 11: 7/4 968.826 harmonic seventh
 12: 2/1 1200.000 octave

Can't remember if I used 'em all. I definitely used my baby, 11/8. I also can't remember the rationale behind creating this scale. I think I was trying to get in a few intervals I like plus some that were 3/2 higher. If anybody can figure out what that 77/48 is supposed to be then please let me know!

The full album can be downloaded from here: http://www.fature.net/release.php?id=156
I haven't listened to the whole thing yet (listening now) so I can't tell you if there's any other microtonal stuff in there. Loads of interesting avant-electro-dance kind of stuff though.

Best wishes,

Sean "Sevish" Archibald

(PS shout out if you're going to UK microfest 4 this weekend)

Hey Sean,

77/48 is up 7/4, up 11/8, down a 3/2 (or as they say in "monzos" <-4,
-1,0,1,1])

I'm going to have a listen later...looking forward to it, as usual.

I've only been able to listen on my blackberry. Nonetheless I ejoyed your piece. My impression was a very futuristic Dutch coffee house. I hope that sounds like a positive comment as it is meant to be one.

I'll mention the obvious: it's 7/6 above the 11/8. It's also 385/384 above 8/5. Tempering would be a possibility.

Oh yes, quite right! I must have wanted to play a 6:7:9 chord with 11/8 as the root.

I like 'em horizony soundscapes with the perpetual beat. Don't know why,
but this reminds me of the Dragon Hunters (2008) animation surrealism.
Good work Sean!
